B.A. Hull Ltd have been our fantastic groundworks contractors – a huge part of this project - as well as constructing the steel frame and underpinning to hold the barn up – no mean feat... They also put their hands to below ground drainage, filling gabion baskets and many other things…

The installation of the precast concrete structure was brilliantly carried out by Premier Pre-cast Developments Ltd. Incredibly careful control and expert handling was required to install such heavy pre-cast components in excess of 15 tonnes below and in scarily close proximity to the 300 year old barn.

Graeme and team have played a big part in the project, installing all the electrics, and splendidly rising to the challenge of exposed cable trays and conduits, all of which were perfectly aligned and coordinated.  They've also installed our photovoltaic panels and successfully wired together the various bits of technology in the house - no mean feat!

These fabulous local blacksmiths have had input in all sorts of bits of the build, including welding the joints between columns and beams, tying the barn together with steel rods, and making our splendid dining table base.

We’ve been trilled with all of the joinery Jim has produced for us here. He’s done a really superb job with our various odd-shaped floaty shelves and seamless cupboards, not to mention our oak dining table top, and hanging our doors.

Has been almost as involved as Jim, and just as fabulous – would highly recommend both.

Baker Stickland Environmental produced our bespoke shaped acoustic ceiling rafts. These were impressively manufactured and installed within an incredibly short timescale. They cut the StoSilent acoustic ceiling panels to our required shapes, edged them and sprayed them – and then installed them with far greater accuracy than we’d even designed to...

These acoustic panels are our equivalent to most people’s curtains and carpets – important to absorb echoes in an otherwise hard surfaced space – and we’re thrilled that they work both acoustically and aesthetically.

The guys from P3 were amazing. They carried out all of the internal plastering and painting of our house, and in the toughest of conditions – the weather was freezing, and the house was completely airtight, but without the ventilation system in place yet. The issues with drying were minimised by using ready mix plaster which has just 10 percent of the water content of traditional plasters

The plastering involved levelling all the rough blockwork surfaces with a backing coat of 10-11mm. P3 then specified all surfaces should then have Sto Levell in C spray coated as a thin set plaster. This ensured the exposed surfaces maintained their form and provide a suitable background for decoration. Paints were Sto’s odour eating Climasan and silk gloss StoLatex 5000 (all VOC free), and all beautifully applied.

NB Renders were the specialist applicators of the Sto insulated render system to the exposed external walls. StoTherm Classic K external wall insulation system was used, with Sto-Turbofix foam adhesive. The system was fast to install, helped to meet the thermal insulation requirements and minimised any potential cold bridges. The system was finished in the unique self-cleaning facade render StoLotusan K.

We were thoroughly impressed with Ekrem and his team, who were dedicated, professional and very skillful.

CSC screeding were the installers of the Ardex rapid hardening screed to the area under the barn, and screed with Contopp Duremit 50 additive to the remainder of the “roof” (this meant the cement content could be reduced). The screed helped to consolidate the whole structure, as well as giving a good surface for the waterproofing.
